Apply Post Template to Permalink Page Only?
Reported by Rod | September 3rd, 2008 @ 05:49 PM
One last thing: I've set up a custom post template with a link for "go to original story" so my readers can see the original (full) story rather than just the summary (or the feed). But this link shows up on both the single post page AND on the front page of the blog. Is there anyway to make it show up ONLY on the single post page?

this has nothing to do with wp-o-matic
if you make a copy of your wp-content/themes/themename/index.php (for example) and rename it to single.php and edit it the way you want it will use that for each single/post view :)
"single.php
The single post template. Used when a single post is queried. For this and all other query templates, index.php is used if the query template is not present. "

Thank you. I apologize for being dense, but I'm still having trouble following: what I'm trying to do is get the link I created in the WP-o-Matic template NOT to appear on the index page, while still appearing on the single.php page. This link would not appear at all but for my having inserted it through the WP-o-Matic "custom post template" function, so I don't know how to get that to apply to just one but not the other.
I am grateful for your help, and sorry if you actually just explained it perfectly and I didn't understand.

No no. I created this in WP-o-Matic's "Custom Post Template":
{content}
Go to Original StoryThis puts a link to the original story (not the RSS feed) beneath the post on my blog.
What I'm trying to figure out is how to make it ONLY do this on the single post page, and not on the front page (the index page). The aim is for people to actually click the link onto the single post page, and once there if they want more, to follow this link to the original story. I don't want them to be able to bypass this process by going to the original story directly from the front page.
Is this possible?
