Google news ...

Reported by RoguePriest | September 10th, 2008 @ 05:34 PM

I am using two feeds: one from feedburner and one from Google news. Google news is valid upon check, however does not fetch any posts from the feed.

The feedburner feed shows an error:

The following errors have been encountered:

* Feeds
o Feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/Nieu... could not be parsed (SimplePie said: A feed could not be found at http://feeds.feedburner.com/Nieu...

checking the feed using newgator... the feed shows up like it is supposed to.

Any ideas? let me know \RoguePriest

Sometimes wp-o-matic does not fetch feeds from Google News. I suspect it to be because of the format. Google doesn't return a multiple-lined document. The entire feed is a one-liner. When the feeds length exeeds 65535 (2 ^ 16) characters, which it does in some feeds, the error occurs. Could it be that 65535 is the maximum length of a string? (in either php or the simplepie framework...)

    • Tag set to functionality issue, google news

I'm also seeing a problem with google news feeds. I'm not seeing any errors, but no posts are ever fetched.

Feed length isn't the issue, at least not the 64K feed length alluded to above because the particular feed I'm trying has only one entry. Probably <2K total length to the xml.

Same here... I've never been able to get a Google News RSS feed of any size. It's the only RSS feed I have ever had any problems with in WP-O-Matic. :-(

Can you double-check your URL? According to the error message, there's a trailing parenthesis at the end of your URL.

I am also having the same problem, no feed from google news works for me. I'm able to add it to the campaign alright. But if I try and fetch it always returns zero.

Coincidently, any feed url which has the & symbol in it always returns zero results.

Try replacing the & in the URL with %26 - any luck?

Yahoo! News feed via RSS are now giving me the same result. The feed URL is definitely good. I can use a regular RSS client with the URL just fine. It will not work at all with the plugin though. :-(

I tried replacing the & with %26 but then it will not even let me add the feed to the campaign.

I was able to get this Flickr feed to be accepted:

    http://api.flickr.com/services/f...

And there is definitely a & in there. I'm thinking something else must be the problem here.

When I looked in the database for the campaign entries, they had been encoded. That is, the '&' was turned into a '&'. Changing them back to '&' caused them to start working. I'm not sure why wpo is urlencoding url's - that would seem to be a bug. But, if you go into the db itself, you can make it work.
