WP-o-Matic and WP 2.6.3 - Setup not showing

Reported by radicals | November 22nd, 2008 @ 08:15 AM

I have installed a brand new installation of WP 2.6.3, and then WP-o-Matic RC4. I uploaded the WP-o-Matic to the rigth directory and then I have enabled the plugin inside WP.

I then got a link to the setup in a yellowish box, and clicked on it. I was then taken to an empty WP-o-Matic setup page.

Seems to be working for me (I'm using 2.6.3, too).

What versions of PHP and MySQL are you using? This plugin is a good way to fine out:

Also, what web browser are you using? Can you try doing this in another? Example, if you're using Firefox, then try it in Internet Explorer or Safari.

All else fails, disable every other WordPress plugin and try WP-o-Matic again. There could be a conflict with another plugin.

I'd try these one at a time, so you know which one fixed the problem.

WP-o-Matic is the only Plugin that is currently active.

I used IE6 and Firefox - same result.

Is it possibly the PHP version?

Maybe Guillermo (or someone else) has more insight with this, but that seems fine to me.

At this point, I'd try doing this in Internet Explorer, and see if the problem sticks. If the problem goes away, then take a look at what you've got installed into Firefox. Could be a problem extension.

If that doesn't do it, then disable every WordPress plugin except WP-o-Matic and try again. If it works, then slowly enable your WordPress plugins, one by one (in between, go back to WP-o-Matic and see if the problem resurfaces).

If this is a conflict with something else, it might be possible to work around the problem.

Oh, heh...sorry, we were both typing at the same time.

Not sure what's going on then, that's strange. No problems with other plugins?

Thank you for the quick response.

I tried both IE and Firefox, no change.

Maybe it will be easier for you to diagnose if I give you temporarily full access. I have therefore made a new installation for this purpose.

the username and password are both admin

If you do not mind, will you have a look to see if the same happens on your side. Maybe we can learn from this.

The phpinfo plug in worked fine, as well as two others.

Hmm - am taking a look, seeing the same problem, yeah. Everything else seems fine.

    A few more ideas:

Can you install and enable this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plug...

It will have WP-o-Matic utilize that version of SimplePie, rather than the bundled version.

Besides that, I'm comparing the differences between your Phpinfo and mine - looks like you've got register_globals 'on' and I do not. I don't know what that means, but it looks like this is something PHP has deprecated for the past few years.

    http://blog.roshambo.org/archive...

If the problem really is that, or anything specific to your PHP, you're going to need to contact your host about it. :-/

Give the SimplePie plugin a try, first, though.

Also! Do you have a 'cache' folder within your wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic folder? If not, create one, and make the permissions on it be 755 (check the permissions anyway). It's a shot in the dark, since WP-o-Matic should prompt you to create that, but just making sure to cover everything.

Thank you for your assistance. I have found the issue:

It is not Register Globals - although mine is off now.

I have copied all the files into plugin instead of plugin/wp-o-matic

In otherwords I dropped the wp-o-matic folder at first, which explains why things were broken.

    Oh, nice! Very cool, then.

Weird that it let you do that, but glad you got it working. Happy to help! :)

johnspice, what did you fix? You might want to submit your code changes to the author so your work isn't lost in the next version of WP-o-matic. :)
