cron job: no password?

I'm running 1.0rc4-6 and am hosted at dreamhost, so I have a cron panel at the dreamhost panel-- it's the same as any cron job manager, but the interface for "how often" is more user-friendly.
Anyway...
My cron jobs are returning this result:
Warning! cron.php was called with the wrong password or without one!
When I copy/paste the URL into my browser, I get a blank screen, and the debug log says the same thing about the password.
In my initial re-install, I had to edit the URL to the direct website (with http://) because the original URL was the server path and threw an error in curl ("malformed url" or something like that).
Any thoughts on why I'm getting this error or how to fix it?
